Prerequisites: 21st level, Wisdom 21 or Intelligence 21, Ritual casting feat

As a lich, your goal in life is to unfold the necrotic powers that surround the world and releave your body from it’s mortality. To accomplish this, you use your mastery over rituals to bend the energies to your will. You could have several reasons to aim for this. You might be searching for knowledge, and feel a lifetime is not long enough. You might be searching for the answer to a question you consider to be vital, and know the research will take many, many, centuries. There are many other reasons why one could want to become a lich, and every reason is as valid as the other.

Immortality

Eventually, you will find and use the ritual you need, transforming you into an undying creature. You will retire into a distant home. In that home, you will continue the quest that made you decide to become a Lich. You will become known to many people, and they will seek you out for advice, ritual castings, and more. Depending on your area of expertise, people might come to you for other things as well.

Lich Features

Improved rituals (21st level): You have an increased understanding of the theories behind rituals, allowing you to cast rituals in half the usual time. When you’ve seen a ritual, you can spend eight hours and half the market price in ritual components to recreate that ritual.

Undying action (24th level): When you spend an action point to gain an additional action, you <del datetime="2008-09-17T23:22:06+00:00">re</del>gain <ins datetime="2008-09-17T23:22:06+00:00">temporary</ins> hit points equal to your healing surge value + 1d10.

Lich’s research (26th level): You gain one 22nd level utility power from any class.

Undying power (30th level): When you have expended your last remaining encounter power, you regain the use of one encounter power of your choice. In this way, you never run out of encounter powers.

My friend Regina Idiotarum said:

(…)

The biggest goal in today’s life is to be happy. Some people work hard to be happy, others are happy because they work hard. Finding out what you want to do is often something that takes years of therapy, when you knew what you wanted to do in the first place. Many people confuse prosperity and money with happiness, and they end up chasing a golden chalice to find that it’s no more than a cheap trinket with the ability to lure other fake people with golden chalices that have been duped by today’s society.

(…)

She raises some good points, but I have a few things to add. One of the biggest causes of the symptoms she describes are due to the capitalist system, telling us to amass as much money as we can. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s capitalism that taught us that money brings happiness.

I think, that if you truly wish to be happy, you must first explore yourself, to find out what you want. For some, a therapist might help, but not for everyone. A basic method is to think back to your happiest moments and ask yourself a few questions. What happened? Why did it make you happy? Can you try to make similar things happen?

After you have found a few things which make you happy, and of which you’ve got a decent idea to let them happen again, persue them. It’s pretty likely that these aren’t things that money can buy, or are really easy to get, but still try. After all, don’t you want to be happy?

Just so all of you know, I like fourth edition, I just considered it to be important to look at the system’s flaws, especially from a proponent’s point of view.

The system actively pushes the characters to good, more so than any previous edition, this is especcially apparent when playing characters with the Divine power source, as most of their powers that aren’t weaponry focused are in fact dealing radiant damage, which feels extremely on the good side of damage.

Many character concepts that were historically part of core are gone, this includes the spellcaster trying to summon everything. (There are summons, but they aren’t independent, and don’t even resemble monsters.)

There is barely any focus on roleplaying situations, nor is there much fluff to guide new players and dungeon masters.

The system has undergone many patches already, within months of the release. This suggests that the game was released earlier than it should’ve been released. (But I bet any PC gamer knows the feeling.)

The promised on line content has been much delayed, and they are afraid to even name a new official release date.

I most likely missed things you might consider a vital flaw, these are just the things which bugged me.

(…)

To make things more confusing, part of the google code website links to an older version of the google TOU.

(…)

There are two important consequences of this. The first is that it allows Google to use your code without using the OS license you use. The second is that it is expressly forbidden by most of the licenses of the licenses to grant such licenses google requires you to use.

The Adventurer’s Vault, the fourth edition equivalent of the Magic Item compendium. This will review will cover the general idea of the book and several items on their own.

Let’s start with the layout of the book. The first chapter is labeled “Equipment” and covers those things that aren’t fit for chapter two (Magic items). This chapter details new forms of masterwork armour, new weapons, mounts, vehicles, and last, but not least, alchemy.

The second chapter is labeled “Magic Items” and is the meat of the book, it has dozens of new magic items of all types found in the Player’s Handbook and introduces a few more types.

Appendix I (Yes, there are only two true chapters) details tying magic items into the campaign, and gives several methods to make magic items more unique. It also gives some official support for scaling magic items during the campaign.

Appendix II then is a master table of the magic items in the Adventurer’s vault, sorted by level.

So I found this nifty font online. (You need the font for the rest of this post, Direct Link.) That allows me to do all sorts of crazy stuff.

First, I have put this Quenya poem I wrote a while ago into something that might very well be Tengwar for typesetting. (I hope I did it right.)

g; g2m.q2 .g; 6m.F Ck5m.j gme m6c.qF Ck5.j g2Cm.2 .gm.i

gme yI..l 6m.iF gA2m.q2 yI..l gme Ck5.j 6m.Fq gB2m.2i C5k.j; gm.i g2.2 Y;.Z

Next, to show more of it, I have the Latin Alphabet.

u.wC.z.x FHace.24!# *5G.4! FhHae.4!.G FHace.ace FHec.ec *G5.!4b FHc.c.FH ae.aeFH E5.!.Hg FHKL FHA FHz.w.FH FHz.x.FH 5*G.4!.G FHce.4# 5*G.4!.G5 FHce.4#x *75.!24 E.FH iG5.!.FH z.x.u.w HFu.x.FH uz.xw z.Fw AEu.w

&e6.3@4.G iG6&.3@ .*h6.4@ &6.3@.Gi b&C.3@ .*Gcf 7*5.!4#.G Gi&.3.g :G !.G: iGlo iG G3.&.G G&.3.g P. Q..Gi G& 6\*.@4 6Hd h6.@.G y.v JM .zu.w bdv

m.FH I*A.4.h 5*.4!#2 Cw.FH HE5&.3!.g wOg .Eu.w OQ. Q.u.h JG5*.4!.G

And finally something that should be legible Greek.

Gf)n.a 5&g.3j.vx C.g5 5&]g.3j.vx P.FH PF 5&g.3j.vx Gf)n.a C.g5 O Gf

It’s certainly not perfect, but it’s a nifty tool, and I’ll have fun trying it out.
